The building is divided vertically with living areas located on the upper level, whilst visiting guests and family could occupy the ground level. The large masonry walls are visual and physical elements that articulate public, private, and service spaces on each level. The integration of landscape was critical given the house was raised 600mm above the natural ground to ensure the required views were optimised. A series of floating timber decks, and a ramped stair entry feature, are designed as an extension to the natural fall of the site to ease access and egress to the house.

A special mention must go to the clients who worked so easily and comfortably with the architect, Builder and designer to achieve such an extraordinary home.

John Aust also won 'South Coast Host Trainer' of the year.

John currently has three apprentices in his employ. There is a skills shortage, so his endeavours have been gratefully appreciated and are reflected in the presentation of this award.
